Saturday's BLUE begins at the earlier time of 9:45 and includes a lengthy bonus track by Arlo Guthrie. Also coming our way tonight, Ola Kvernberg. He's a multi-instrumentalist who studied classical violin. Ola's "Liarbird" CD was a Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy) winner in 2011. We've a selection from that tonight. Our playlist includes a live duet by Doc Watson and Bill Monroe; classical pianist Ryan Wigglesworth, performing an Oliver Knussen composition; Steve Winwood from his time with Traffic; Jimmy Smith's Hammond organ; part of Rachmaninov's first piano concerto; 3 samples of contemporary Finnish jazz; and a couple of recordings by the late Bert Jansch (who's being featured all this week on the programme).

For Burns' Night, we air 3 recordings that make good use of some of the words put together by Robert "don't call me Rabbie" Burns; also on Friday's BLUE OF THE NIGHT, part of a symphony by Villem Kapp; Marc Almond, from a tribute album to Russian tenor Vadim Kozin; jazz pianist/composer Mary Lou Williams; the voice of the late Karen Dalton; guitarist Pierre Bensusan (see video); Alfred Brendal plays Beethoven's Piano Sonata No.15; and hear kora-player Ballaké Sissoko recorded with cellist Vincent Segal.

Eamonn sits in on Thursday's BLUE  for the usual mix of the old and the new. Old chestnuts include Symphony No.3 by Aaron Copland, The Gil Evans Orchestra featuring Johnny Coles on trumpet, and Greig's Cello Concerto. Among the more recent fare: the second CD by Felice Sound Orchestra - essentially, jazz bassist/composer Felix Behrendt with a 40-piece string section; and Southern Tennant Folk Union, a folk/bluegrass ensemble from Edinburgh. We've also a couple of recordings by harpist/singer Arianna Savall; 2 more by Professor Tommy Smith; Okinawan musican Takashi Hirayasu; and more in this week's series of Beethoven piano sonatas.

This Sunday night's BLUE offers the usual calming and/or unexpected late night treats: for example, Jane Siberry guests on "Heaven & Hell", Joe Jackson's song cycle representation of the seven deadly sins; we've music by Lepo Sumera (see video) and fellow-Estonian Arvo Part; French jazz guitarist Sylvain Luc; instrumental Chuck Berry, from the 1950s; Freddie White sings a Tom Waits song; plus 2 Beethoven piano sonatas; and Popul Vuh's Florian Fricke plays solo piano.
