A Busy Day

Eamonn at Heuston station, awaiting the arrival of the 18:00 to Cork, change at Limerick Junction for Limerick - after a day in RTÉ in Dublin. Spent the morning (with Lorcan Murray and Gail Henry) adjacent to "The Late Late Show" TV studio, helping transition year students from around Ireland make a programme for future radio broadcast. After lunch, Eamonn (and Carl Corcoran) pulled some poses in John Cooney's Donnybrook photographic studio, before being filmed for the RTÉ Ten website (link to follow when item appears)...

Coming up on Sunday's BLUE, Fairport Convention's "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" - first recorded by Sandy Denny with The Strawbs - plus acapella Sandy Denny; young German pianist Joseph Moog (see video), from the recently released "Scarlatti Illuminated"; Marianne Faithfull sings a song by Brecht & Weill; we'll hear Keith Jarrett perform a Shostakovich fugue; another fugue, by Mario Castelnuevo Tedesco; singer/songwriter Kelly Joe Phelps; the late Kevin Ayers, live; plus a line-up of Soft Machine that boasts one Karl Jenkins (yes, that Karl Jenkins!). 10pm...

We've the usual mix of tasteful music plus - in advance of Oscar night - Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels; otherwise, Saturday's BLUE comprises recordings by guitarists Eivind Aarset (see video) and Louis Stewart; the late Kathy Dalton; Dubliner Garth Knox, ahead of his appearance at the New Music Dublin festival next weekend; and a couple of recordings by this week's featured artist, Sandy Denny.

Listeners to BLUE have until 11pm tonight to be in with a chance of winning festival passes and hotel accomodation for the entire New Music Dublin festival, which runs from March 1st to 3rd.


Icelandic composer-musician Jóhann Jóhannsson will be appearing on stage with Hilliard Ensemble; you could also attend Garth Knox's ECM project "Saltarello", the Irish premiere of Arvo Part's Symphony No.4 by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and a world premiere perfomance of Kevin Volans' String Quartet No.11 by Callino Quartet.
