This Friday's BLUE includes part of a famous Tchaikovsky piano concerto, and a jazzed-up Sugar Plum Fairy; Johnny Hodges with Gerry Mulligan; Swedish folk music from Filarfolket and Groupa; a 2013 re-enactment of "On The Frontier", with texts by W.H. Auden and Christpher Isherwood, and incidental music by Benjamin Britten (see video); The Necks, an experimental trio from Down Under; part of Thomas Newman's "Shawshank Redemption" soundtrack; guitarist Kazumi Watanabe, playing a piece by Koko Tanikawa; Norma Winstone's take on "Cucurrucucu Paloma"; and more from Richard Strauss, whose music has been featured all this week.

On Sunday's BLUE, Eamonn links Schubert's "Notturno"; 2 songs by Hoagy Carmichael, including an instrumental version of "Georgia On My Mind" by jazz guitarist John Scofield; Pat Metheny's reading of "And I Love Her"; Nick Cave's "Let It Be"; we'll also hear 3 orchestrations of music by Lennon & McCartney;  the Alan Berg quartet play a slow movement by Beethoven; a sample from a CD of compositions by Ciarán Farrell; solo Aaron Parks, and Parks recorded with Terence Blanchard; Mark Murphy will pay tribute to Shirley Horn; and we get to listen to last of the week's recordings by Nina Simone (see video).
