This Sunday night on BLUE, we hear another idiosyncratic track from the recently-issued "Business Is Bad", the first album by Karen Mantler (see video) since 1996; a little bit of piano (András Schiff playing one of Beethoven's last sonatas; Paul Lewis, performing a late work by Schubert); a French-Italian accordion and nyckelharpa duo that's taken Bach and Biber as inspiration for a new recording; some choral music (specifically, The Sixteen, from the second in a series of Polish music releases); bandoneon-player Dino Saluzzi, recorded with son José Maria, brother Felix and nephew Matías; works by John Tavener and Patrick Hawes (which feature cello and violin respectively); plus the last of the week's cuts by Howlin' Wolf.

On Saturday's BLUE, Eamonn links 2 pieces by Bartok; Mayo singer/songwriterTony Reidy; Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg; Pete Seeger's "Dear Mr President"; Myung Whun Chung, from a new solo piano CD for ECM; Jan Garbarek with the Hilliard Ensemble; hugely-influential saxophone-player Lester Young (see video); part of a violin concerto by Tor Aulin, a late 19th / early 20th century composer from Sweden; another cut by blues legend Howlin' Wolf; and jazz pianist Wynton Kelly, who - many forget - appeared on the seminal "Kind Of Blue" recording with Miles Davis.

This Friday, Lady Day sings Rodgers & Hart; Laura Marling, one of her own songs; we hear a fugue by Mario Castelnuevo Tedesco; an original song by Israeli-born, Danish resident, Dalia Faitelson; 1960s Canadian folk singer Bonnie Dobson, from a new album; part of a violin sonata by Francis Poulenc; a young Aretha Franklin; jazz singer Karen Mantler (the daughter of Carla Bley and Michael Mantler), and her thoughts on a certain volcano in Iceland; a work by Max Reger, as it appears on a new release by the Jacques Thibaud String Trio (see video); the title track of an album by Fripp and Eno that was used to provide incidental music in the original radio series of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy; a pastorale by celebrated movie composer Miklós Rózsa; plus bluesman Howlin' Wolf.
