Sunday happens to be the birth-date of  Israeli-American violinist-cum-conductor Itzak Perlman and Belfast-born Van Morrison. Eamonn links recordings by both artists tonight (from "Schindler's List" and "Astral Weeks" respectively), as well as a duet release by Franco-Italian duo Jean-Louis Matinier and Marco Ambrosini; plus one by an ensemble led by Peter Wraight and Charles Webster; Greek composer Eleni Karaindrou (see video); and the last of the week's compositions by Leonard Bernstein, including a reading of "Some Other Time" by Bill Evans and Tony Bennett.

On Saturday's BLUE, Nikolai Lugansky (see video) performs music by Liszt; Cavan's Lisa O'Neill sings one of her own songs; we'll hear a tango by Isaac Albéniz; clarinettist Louis Sclavis from a new ECM release; more from Leonard Bernstein, in the week of the anniversary of his birth; acapella Sandy Denny; vintage Lester Young; part of a cello concerto by C.P.E. Bach; a re-mix of Bugge Wesseltoft's "Change"; part of Barry Guy's "After The Rain"; as well as the ambient strains of guitarist Eivind Aarset.

This Friday night, we'll hear singer/songwriter Tori Amos; a sample from a duet recording by cellist Anja Lechner and pianist Francois Couturier for the ECM label (see video with Tarkovsky Quartet) ; romantic orchestral music by George Templeton Strong, an often-overlooked composer from New York city; a torch song by classical music/psychology graduate Patricia Barber; guitar music created by the late Richard Rodney Bennett; the twin guitars of Laurindo Almeida and Charle Byrd; low-key Mahavishnu Orchestra; part of a solo piano work by Hans Otte (a German artist who studied with Paul Hindemith); saxophonist Charles Lloyd, in advance of his visit to the National Concert Hall in mid-November; Andy Irvine, recorded in the Australian Outback; more music by Leonard Bernstein; and a selection from a new CD by Milan-born pianist Stefano Bollani.

On Sunday's BLUE, we'll hear from the late Henry Byrd, a.k.a. Professor Longhair (see video), a founding father of New Orleans R'n'B; the slow movement of a Scriabin piano concerto; Leo Brouwer's "Sarabanda de Scriabin"; a sneak preview from a forthcoming ECM release by Anja Lechner (cello) and Francois Couturier (piano); the covering of a Sugarcubes song by Jackie Oates; sarod-player Soumik Datta; part of a newly made available piano sonata by Liszt; singer-songwriter Roy Harper; legendary bluesman T-Bone Walker; the Gazzana sisters, performing a Poulenc violin sonata; some endlessly playing by Sigur Rós; experienced session-man Noel Langley from his recent debut release; Myung Whun Chung's reading of "Clair de lune", which can be found on a new solo piano CD recorded for ECM; and the last of the week's songs by Debussy.

Saturday's BLUE comprises - in part, at least - jazz-man Art Pepper's tribute to his wife's pet poodle; an acoustic "Your Move" by Yes-man Steve Howe; duduk-player Jivan Gasparyan; singer-songwriter Sheryl Crowe; 3 short movements from George Rochberg's "Transcendental Variations"; 3 Elvis Costello songs, including one EC wrote with Ol' Blue Eyes in mind; reed-player Bennie Maupin leading his quartet; chamber music by Gabriel Dupont; Antony Hegarty sings Dylan; Cape Verdean guitarist-cum-instrument-maker Bau; young French singer Cyrille Aimée (see video); and Veronique Gens sings Debussy.
