We close the month with Jimmy Witherspoon and a little "Trouble In Mind"; Beth Orton, from "Sugaring Season"; part of a violin concerto by Emil Mlynarski; a feisty "Robbins Nest" played by Hank Jones et al; more from this week’s featured recording by Ryuichi Sakamoto and the Morelenbaums; cellist Leonard Elschenbroich, from his new recording of music by Prokofiev and Kabalevsky; the gentle, medium-tempo swing of "When Lights Are Low" performed by a pitch-perfect Sarah Vaugahn (see video); the Irish Chamber Orchestra, from "Night Moves"; and new jazz from Denmark, including something from an album of Johnny Mandel's music by sax-player Harry Allen and the Jan Lundgren Quartet.

Tonight, an American pianist called Earl goes wild about Rachmaninov; Willie Dixon contemplates a world in which sea-water is made from whiskey; Duke Ellington (along with his orchestra) pays tribute to Billy Strayhorn; the Swedish Chamber Orchestra performs a pastoral suite by Gunnar de Frumerie; Mats Edén fiddles some Swedish folk; the usually-focussed Herbie Hancock does some driftin’; 3 ensembles play the music of Astor Piazzolla; Felix “Felice” Behrendt invites us to have a happy day; the late Elliott Smith (see video) sings of a certain Miss - or should that be Ms? - Misery; the Irish Youth Chamber Choir sings a composition by Howard Skempton; and we hear more from this week’s featured recording by Ryuichi Nakamoto and the Morelenbaums.

On Saturday's BLUE, Bruce Cockburn demands that the mean-spirited "Tell The Universe"; we'll hear a "Lyric Fantasy" by Lars-Erik Larsson; Billie Holiday shall reveal that the castles of Spain can be there for you "Back In Your Own Backyard"; also coming our way tonight, an original tune by young Irish jazz guitarist - and instrument-maker - John Moriarty; celebrated Irish classical pianist Michael McHale; Ewan MacColl with Dominic Behan, as well as a cover of "The Travelling People" by Christy Moore; Iarla Ó Lionárd's "Glistening Fields" (see video); the opening movement of Arvo Part's 4th symphony; and Brian Eno's less-famous brother Roger.

On tonight's BLUE, we'll hear Mónica Waisman and Florian Deuter play a double violin sonata by 18th century composer Jean-Marie Leclair; Schumann's music, jazzed up by Jacques Loussier; Tchaikovsky, performed on solo piano by Boris Petrushansky (see video); Anonymous 4 and Bruce Molsky, from a new CD commemorating the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War; Joy Williams and John Paul White - collective name: The Civil Wars; 3 recordings by Ewan MacColl, in the week of his centenary; a version of Shostakovich's Symphony No.15 for sextet; Jimmy Rowles with Zoot Sims and a Cole Porter tune (what could go wrong?); part of a Hindemith violin sonata from a new CD by Alexander Melnikov (and guests); and Piazzolla, arranged for harp, violin and bandoneon.
